Jonathan Sarna’s Condition Upgraded to ‘Serious’

Historian Jonathan Sarna’s condition has been upgraded from critical to serious, a spokeswoman from Yale New Haven Hospital said.
Sarna was hospitalized on May 17 after collapsing while in New Haven for his daughter’s graduation from Yale. A May 23 posting on the website CarePages said that Sarna is moving “slowly in the right direction.”
“Your messages and prayers are deeply cherished and really do help all of us,” the CarePages posting said. “Jonathan is proud to be a cancer survivor, and we all need to help him be a survivor of this too.
Sarna is a leading scholar of American Jewish history and a professor at Brandeis University. His latest book, “When General Grant Expelled the Jews,” was a National Jewish Book Award Finalist in 2012. Sarna is a contributing editor at the Forward and the chief historian of the National Museum of American Jewish History, among other posts.
The May 23 CarePages posting said that Sarna be treated for an underlying cardiac condition as his status improved.
