Israeli Boy Stabbed While Riding Bike Is Breathing on His Own
The 13-year-old boy who was stabbed by two Palestinian teens is conscious and breathing on his own, a week after the attack in Jerusalem’s Pisgat Zeev neighborhood.
He was brought to the hospital following the attack on Oct. 12 in critical condition, where he was put in an induced coma and connected to a respirator.
Prof. Ahmed Eid, head of Hadassah Mt. Scopus Hospital’s Department of General Surgery, said in a statement that he is optimistic about his recovery,” but cautioned that the teen “has a long path of rehabilitation still ahead of him.”
One of the teen’s assailants, Hassan Mansra, 15, was killed by security officials during the attack. The second teen, Ahmed Mansra, 13, of eastern Jerusalem, was released from Hadassah Medical Center at Ein Kerem Sunday night and then arrested and turned over a detention facility after a court ruled that he remain in custody for eight days. He was seriously injured by a car as he attempted to flee from the scene of the stabbing.
On Wednesday, in a televised speech from Ramallah, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas accused Israel of “executing” Ahmed. The next day, the Israeli government released a video of the teen eating in his hospital bed.
