Lena Dunham Hospitalized

(JTA) — Actress Lena Dunham has been hospitalized and will undergo surgery.

A spokesperson for Dunham said in a statement that the “Girls” creator and star was taken to the hospital Saturday morning. She reportedly suffered the rupture of an ovarian cyst, part of her ongoing battle with endometriosis.

Dunham, 29, has been public about her chronic endometriosis and how it affects her.

She discussed her endometriosis in a Facebook post early last month, in which she announced that she would not be doing any interviews in advance of the “Girls” season premiere on Feb. 21 due to her chronic illness.

“I am currently going through a rough patch with the illness and my body (along with my amazing doctors) let me know, in no uncertain terms, that it’s time to rest,” Dunham wrote in the post. She also wrote: “So many women with this disease literally don’t have the option of time off and I won’t take it for granted.”

Dunham, who is Jewish, writes, directs and stars in the HBO series “Girls,” now in its sixth season, about a group of 20-something women in living in Brooklyn, New York.
