Purim Shpiels Aplenty
It’s not difficult for New Yorkers to find their niche, and Purim events are no exception. Yiddishists should check out the National Yiddish Theatre-Folksbiene’s “Purim in Khelm,” a fully staged Purim shpiel written and directed by Motl Didner, with original songs by Miryem-Khaye Seigel. The show, which is sponsored by the City University of New York, is presented in Yiddish with English and Russian supertitles.
Prefer the tunes of the Great White Way? Head to the third annual Broadway Purim Shpiel, presented by the National Entertainment Fund for the Cultural Arts to benefit Taglit-Birthright Israel, a program that gives young Jews the opportunity to visit Israel on an educational, all-expense-paid trip. Hosted by comedian Seth Rudetsky, the production includes performances by stars of “Les Misérables,” “Jersey Boys” and “American Idol.”
Folksbiene performances are shown at various CUNY Campuses; Feb.27-March 8; free; reservations required. (718-951-4500, 212-213-2120 or www.folksbiene.org)
Broadway Purim Shpiel: Hudson Theatre, 141 W. 44th St.; March 4, 7 p.m.; $100, $75; tickets includes pre-show open bar and post-show dessert-and-wine reception. (212-868-4444, www.smarttix.com or www.3rdbroadwaypurimshpiel.com)

Now more than ever, American Jews need independent news they can trust, with reporting driven by truth, not ideology. We serve you, not any ideological agenda.
At a time when other newsrooms are closing or cutting back, the Forward has removed its paywall and invested additional resources to report on the ground from Israel and around the U.S. on the impact of the war, rising antisemitism and polarized discourse.
This is a great time to support independent Jewish journalism you rely on. Make a gift today!
