Letter: American Jews Need To Stop Telling Israelis What Is Right And Wrong

Dear Editor,
As a Jewish publication, I’m really disgusted by the large number of anti-Israel opinion pieces which appear in the Forward. These articles seem to be the overwhelming majority. I don’t care for Jews who live safely outside of Israel, telling Israelis what is wrong with us and our state. Come, put your life on the line and those of your children, then you can have your say. I haven’t voted for Netanyahu in the last two elections and I’m no fan of his, especially in recent years. Jews who live outside of Israel can only feel safe because they have Israel as a safety net.
Henry Tobias,

Why I became the Forward’s editor-in-chief
You are surely a friend of the Forward if you’re reading this. And so it’s with excitement and awe — of all that the Forward is, was, and will be — that I introduce myself to you as the Forward’s newest editor-in-chief.
And what a time to step into the leadership of this storied Jewish institution! For 129 years, the Forward has shaped and told the American Jewish story. I’m stepping in at an intense time for Jews the world over. We urgently need the Forward’s courageous, unflinching journalism — not only as a source of reliable information, but to provide inspiration, healing and hope.
