Giffords Hopes to Return to Congress
Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) is determined to return to Congress.
Giffords, who is recovering from being shot in the head in January, reveals in a book she co-writes with her husband, Mark Kelly, that she plans to keep her job, according to a report by the Associated Press, which got an advance copy.
“I will get stronger. I will return,” she wrote. Giffords returned to Congress, for one vote, on Aug. 1 to vote for a $2.5 billion debt ceiling package.
It is not clear if, by “return” she means she will run again next year; her staff said in August she had yet to make that decision.
The gunman who shot Giffords during a constituent meeting in Tucson killed another six people.
Giffords is the first jewish woman elected to Congress from Arizona.
