Gravestone of Hitler’s Parents Is Removed
The gravestone of Adolf Hitler’s parents, which has become a shrine for neo-Nazis, was removed at the request of a relative.
The elderly woman, reportedly a descendant of Hitler’s father, relinquished her rights to the gravesite located in the Austrian town of Leonding and had the gravestone removed, according to reports.
“I am concerned that the grave of my forebears has repeatedly been abused for expressions of sympathy” by neo-Nazis, she said in a statement, according to the German news agency DPA.
The couple’s remains have not been exhumed, but the gravesite is now available for a new burial, according to reports.
Hitler’s father, Alois, died in 1903. His mother, Kara, died in 1907.
