Israel donated an outdoor fitness park to the Buenos Aires city government in a ceremony at Palermo Park, the main green space in the Argentinean capital.

Buenos Aires Minister of Public Spaces and Environment Diego Santilli accepted the park in a ceremony Monday at Israel Square, located inside Palermo Park. Israeli Amb. Daniel Gazit, Keren Kayemeth Leisrael President Adolfo Filarent, and other Jewish community leaders were in attendance.

Santilli told those in attendance that “we have a full and strong integration between Israel and the city of Buenos Aires. This park is a celebration of the independence of the State of Israel, which is very important for everyone in the world. Congratulations to the entire community and thanks to everyone for continuing to believe in our city.”

The eight Israeli sports machines on which 18 people can exercise simultaneously are made by the Israeli firm Greenfields Outdoor Fitness and were donated by Keren Kayemeth Leisrael to the Buenos Aires City government to be placed at Israel Square. The Israeli embassy in Argentina cancelled this year’s traditional Yom Haatzmaut dinner in order to use the money to install the facility.

Santilli also spoke of the inauguration last week of Shoah Square, also located in Palermo Park. A monument to victims of the Holocaust is scheduled to be built in this square in the coming months.
