Five Jewish Teens Arrested for Jerusalem Attack
Jerusalem Police arrested five Jewish teens in connection with an attack on an Arab resident of eastern Jerusalem, which left the victim with a broken leg.
The arrests on Saturday night came two days after Ibrahim Abu Taha, 28, was attacked in downtown Jerusalem. The victim and a Jewish co-worker had walked a female Jewish co-worker home from their jobs at a Jerusalem hotel. He was attacked by a group of Jewish teens outside of her apartment.
The arrested teens, three of whom are age 16, said they attacked Abu Taha because they thought he was “taking advantage” of a Jewish woman, Ynet reported. The Jewish co-worker was not attacked.
The incident came less than a month after a group of Jewish teens beat a 17-year-old Arab and left him in critical condition in the capital in an assault Israeli police described as a lynching. Police arrested five in that attack, including a 13-year-old. Earlier in August, teenage Jewish assailants firebombed a Palestinian taxi near Gush Etzion, wounding six people, including two children.
Meanwhile, an Arab gas station attendant from eastern Jerusalem said that he was attacked at work early Friday morning because he is an Arab.
