Former New York Mayor Edward I. Koch was hospitalized for a lung infection, a spokesman said.
George Arzt, Koch’s spokesman, said he was being treated at with antibiotics for an infection in one lung at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center.
Arzt told the New York Times that he expected the former mayor to be released in time to celebrate his 88th birthday next week.
Koch had hoped to campaign for President Obama’s reelection this fall, but was not healthy enough to travel to Florida. He did record a video endorsing Obama.
It’s our birthday and we’re still celebrating!
