Brooklyn Man Charged With Beating Jew — New ‘Knock Out’ Attack?
A Brooklyn man was reportedly charged with a hate crime after he beat an Orthodox Jewish man in what police say may be the latest example of a spreading violent urban game known as ‘knock out.’
Amrit Marajh, 28, of Kensington, allegedly hit an identifiably Jewish man as he walked home early Friday in the Midwood section of the borough, DNAinfo.com reported.
“I didn’t knock out no Jew,” Marajh shouted at reporters as he was led out of the 66th Precinct in Brooklyn after hours of questioning.
The victim, who was not seriously hurt, reported the attack to a local Jewish security patrol, which called the police.
Several Jewish men have been attacked in recent weeks as the violent game spreads. New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly warned that it was not yet clear if Marajh was playing the game or if it was some other kind of anti-Semitic attack.
Marajh, who was freed on bail, said he had never heard of the game and denied hitting the victim. His lawyer told reporters the case was “blown out of proportion.”
