The teenage son of a prominent Jewish Boston Globe columnist has reportedly gone missing — spurring Jewish organizations across the Boston area to join a massive search.

Pleas for any information concerning Jeff Jacoby’s son Caleb, an 11th grader who has been missing from his Brookline home for more than 24 hours, flooded Twitter early Tuesday evening. According to Debby Jacoby, Caleb’s aunt, the teenage boy has not been seen since 12:30 on Monday afternoon.

Jeff Jacoby Tweeted early Wednesday: “We are so deeply grateful for everything being done to reunite us with our beloved son Caleb.”

The investigation was still ongoing Wednesday morning, according to a spokesman for the Brookline Police Department. “It’s still active; no changes at all,” he told the [MassLive.com] web site.

Wicked Local Brookline reported that Jacoby is “5 feet, 11 inches tall, 140 pounds, with a light complexion.”

“The school is engaging all of its resources to aid Caleb’s parents and the Brookline Police. Our entire school community is praying for Caleb’s safe return,” Maimonides spokeswoman Ellen Pulda told Wicked in an email.

Jacoby’s friends and Jewish communal organizations throughout greater Boston were circulating fliers with Jacoby’s photograph on Tuesday.

Efrat Lipschitz, Jacoby’s Hebrew teacher, who is organizing efforts to post fliers, told the MassLive.com web site that Jacoby is a quiet and serious student.

“He took his studies very seriously. He took life seriously. He wasn’t easygoing,” Lipschitz said. “People really love him in school because he is a very good person.”
