Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto declared that the Jewish community gives its best for the development of Mexico.
Peña Neto was the keynote speaker at a dinner on Monday to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Belfer Institute for Latino and Latin American Affairs Institute of the American Jewish Committee.
“I am pleased to be here with members of the Jewish community in our country. They have been integrated into our society and a part of it. Its members give their best for the development of our nation,” he said.
Some 600 Jewish officials from across Latin America and other guests attended the event held at the Centro Desportivo Israelita in Mexico City.
The president also praised the Jewish community of the United States for supporting the rights of Hispanic immigrants.
“The Jewish community is integrated, committed and is working in every place where it is”, Pena Neto told the Agencia Judía de Noticias.
Mexico is home to over 40,000 Jews, the third largest in Latin America after Argentina and Brazil.
