The 30 Safest Colleges For Jews

Graphic by Angelie Zaslavsky
With anti-Semitism on the rise, safety is on the top of many Jewish parents’ and prospective college students’ minds. While we factored anti-Semitism into last year’s score, this year, we’ve separated it out into an entirely new category: safety. While the bulk of the score is based on the number of anti-Semitic incidents in 2017, the score also takes into account the campus crime rate, the prevalence of crimes covered by the Violence Against Women Act, such as domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking, the city crime rate, the crimes committed per capita, and whether or not the university has an LGBTQ center on campus.
We had three schools that scored perfectly in the safety category, and every school on this list scored at least 10 out of 11 safety points.

This is a moment of great uncertainty for the news media, for the Jewish people, and for our sacred democracy. It is a time of confusion and declining trust in public institutions. An era in which we need humans to report facts, conduct investigations that hold power to account, tell stories that matter and share honest discourse on all that divides us.
With no paywall or subscriptions, the Forward is entirely supported by readers like you. Every dollar you give this Passover is invested in the future of the Forward — and telling the American Jewish story fully and fairly.
The Forward doesn’t rely on funding from institutions like governments or your local Jewish federation. There are thousands of readers like you who give us $18 or $36 or $100 each month or year.
