The Forward in the Podesta Files

John Podesta’s e-mails have revealed a lot about Hillary Clinton’s outreach to American Jews and her messaging on Israel. So, of course the Forward had something to do with it.
It turns out that Podesta subscribes to newsletters from numerous Jewish organizations, including Tikkun Magazine and the S. Daniel Abraham Center for Peace, a Washington, D.C. based group that seeks a two-state solution in Israel-Palestine.
Articles from the Forward surfaced on the Abraham Center’s newsletter, as well as ones from the journal Democracy, The Washington Post and the Democracy in the Americas think tank.
J.J. Goldberg, the Forward’s editor-at-large and regular columnist, garnered the greatest number of mentions in Podesta’s emails, with his columns about the Israeli-Palestinian issue and one about United Nations ambassador Samantha Power. A piece on Cuba from Nathan Guttman, the paper’s Washington correspondent, also made the tally.
Another newsletter reprinted an article that cited the Forward’s reporting on the contentious relationship between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Barack Obama.

Did you know that only 2% of Forward readers donate to support our nonprofit newsroom? That 2% make it possible for millions to read the Forward without a paywall or subscription — removing any barriers to the full and fair Jewish story.
But while the Forward is free to read, it isn’t free to produce. Big stories — like deep dives into the antisemitism data, political scoops or reporting trips to college campuses — take months of research and fact-checking. All while we keep you informed of what you need to know each day.
