Peter Beinart Joins the Forward as Senior Columnist

NEW YORK – Peter Beinart, whose keen intellect and sharp opinions have made him an influential voice in political journalism, is joining the Forward as senior columnist and ccontributing editor, Forward editor-in-chief Jane Eisner announced today.

The Forward has been America’s leading Jewish news source since 1897. Launched as a Yiddish broadsheet for immigrants, the Forward is now the fastest-growing Jewish media brand online.

Beginning in January, Beinart will write a weekly column for the Forward’s opinion pages on topics around politics, Jewish life, and the Middle East. He’ll also host a biweekly podcast at Forward.com.

“We’ve always strived for a broad range of opinions on our editorial pages, and Peter’s insight on American and Israeli politics and society will mean a lot to our audience,” says Forward editor-in-chief Jane Eisner. “They may not always agree with him, but part of our mission is to stimulate conversation around critical issues, and we’re very excited to see that dialogue build.”

Beinart agreed. “I’ve always admired the meaningful and dynamic conversations that play out in the Forward, and I’m excited to become part of that with such an engaged audience” he said. I“Jane and I have had a mutual admiration for a long time, and I’m looking forward to working with her and her team.”:

Beinart is currently Associate Professor of Journalism and Political Science at the City University of New York, as well as a Contributing Editor for The Atlantic and a contributor at CNN. Prior to joining The Forward, he was also a Senior Columnist at Ha’aretz. Beinart’s writing on politics, foreign policy, Israel, Judaism, and other topics has appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Financial Times, The Boston Globe, and elsewhere. He has been named by The Week as “columnist of the year” and is the author of three books: The Good Fight (2006), The Icarus Syndrome (2010), and The Crisis of Zionism (2012).

The move comes as The Forward continues expanding its award-winning multimedia offerings, which have been drawing record numbers in the latter part of 2016. “The Forward’s where the American Jewish conversation has played out since 1897, Forward.com recently launched Scribe, a community contributors’ network, which features a wide array of Jewish thought leaders brought together to give our readers a 360 degree view of the world.
