Purim’s Greatest Videos
Here we are just a couple of days before the Megillah reading, and we’re not joking when we say it’s slim pickings when it comes to good new Purim videos. Some of the best Hanukkah videos last December were posted right under the wire before the first candle was lit, so let’s hope this could mean there might yet be some top-notch Purim videos on their way before the last hamentaschen are eaten.
Here’s a sampling of what’s out there so far for Purim 5773:
Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, MI was first out of the gate back in January with this “Move Like Graggers” remix.
Jacquann and Luis are back in this Bubala Please “We Doin’ Purim Rap” video. “Learn the real story of Esther, Mordecai, Haman, and the King. It’s the whole megillah, bitches.” Needless to say, the language in this one is X-rated.
Purim and the Harlem Shake, the latest internet meme, are made for each other. Here are some examples from Israel: students at the [Technion]( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fP3zjMfFStM, patrons at Storage98 Bar in Tel Aviv; and friends of some guy named Shooka Cohen on a basketball court somewhere in the country.
And while everyone else seems to have moved on the Harlem Shake, Chicago’s Anshe Emet Synagogue is still doing PurimGangnam Style.
Gangnam Style is also the soundtrack to this video invitation to the Birthright Israel Alumni Purim party, starring Rabbi Lawrence Hajioff, who is having a difficult time deciding on a costume.
Enlighten yourself about the holiday with these “The Hidden Story of Queen Esther” videos from AlephBeta Academy.
The Maccabi Tel Aviv basketball players celebrated Purim a bit early with kids at the Dana Children’s Hospital and Assaf Harofeh Medical Center in the Tel Aviv area.
And finally, here’s a reminder to drink responsibly this Purim from the folks at Wine Cave on Bedford Ave. in Brooklyn.

In this age of misinformation, our work is needed like never before. We report on the news that matters most to American Jews, driven by truth, not ideology.
At a time when newsrooms are closing or cutting back, the Forward has removed its paywall. That means for the first time in our 126-year history, Forward journalism is free to everyone, everywhere. With an ongoing war, rising antisemitism, and a flood of disinformation that may affect the upcoming election, we believe that free and open access to Jewish journalism is imperative.
Readers like you make it all possible. Right now, we’re in the middle of our Passover Pledge Drive and we still need 300 people to step up and make a gift to sustain our trustworthy, independent journalism.
