Amy Schumer Gives a $1,000 Tip to Hamilton Bartenders

Holy Hamilton! Comedian Amy Schumer went to see the beloved musical this weekend and gave quite a presidential tip to the theater’s bartending staff.

She added cool $1000 for a tab of just $77. That’s an approximately 1230% tip. Which is crazy. Fortunately for you skeptics, actress, singer and bartender Madeleine DeJohn posted the following photographic evidence of Schumer’s generous tip:

And then @amyschumer comes into your work and does something amazing #hamilton #amyschumer

She told Gothamist that this wasn’t the first time Schumer has visited the show and tipped heftily:

When she came to the bar a few months ago and put $80 in our tip jar, I went up to her and thanked her and she basically was like, ‘Of course, I’ve been there, I get it, you guys are great.’ I’ve never encountered this kind of generosity before.”

According to the staff, this was the biggest tip they’ve ever received from one client.

Abhhhhhh #hamilton #bunk

It’s our birthday and we’re still celebrating!

This week we celebrate 129 years of the Forward. We’re proud of our origins as a Yiddish print publication serving Jewish immigrants. And we’re just as proud of what we’ve become today: A trusted source of Jewish news and opinion, available digitally to anyone in the world without paywalls or subscriptions.

We’ve helped five generations of American Jews make sense of the news and the world around them — and we aren’t slowing down any time soon.

As a nonprofit newsroom, reader donations make it possible for us to do this work. Support independent, agenda-free Jewish journalism and our board will match your gift in honor of our birthday!

Support our mission to tell the Jewish story fully and fairly.
