Yes, There are ‘Hamilton’ Themed Hanukkah Music Videos
You knew this was coming, we knew this was coming, and we’re sorry: this is your Hanukkah “Hamilton” parody roundup.
As inevitable as overeating latkes at your family’s Hanukkah festivities or Lin-Manuel Miranda tweeting encouraging messages of nerdy optimism, it seems preordained that when Jewish a capella boy bands took on their annual task of adapting the year’s most popular songs to be Hanukkah-centric, they would leap at the universally adored, much-quoted “Hamilton.”
So far the flock of adaptations has been limited to perhaps the two best-known groups in the aforementioned Jewish a capella boy band genre: the Maccabeats and Six13. Will either make it to Broadway? Doubtful. Do members of either group know how to rap? Uh, no. Will you find yourself gleefully quoting both versions to your bubbe over a cutthroat game of dreidel? Almost certainly. Watch both below and share your favorite.
