Israel Removes Right-Wing Activists From Jericho Shul
Security forces evacuated right-wing activists from a synagogue in Jericho.
The activists, led by National Union lawmaker Michael Ben Ari, entered the Palestinian-controlled area Sunday to visit the ancient Naaran, or Shalom Al Yisrael, synagogue in Jericho. Israel’s army prohibits Israelis from entering Palestinian-controlled areas.
The arrested activists were to be turned over to police for questioning.
Some 60 activists entered the synagogue and hung an Israeli flag from the roof, Ynet reported. The activists broke through an Israeli army checkpoint by force in order to get to Jericho, according to reports.
“The Oslo Accords are dead, we will not agree to the establishment of an enemy state in Israel right under our noses,” Ben-Ari said.
