‘Kind Foundation’ To Dole Out $1M to Folks Who Make a Difference

From an early age, entrepreneur Daniel Lubetzky was instilled with stories of acts of kindness. Some life saving.

It’s an extreme story, but one that sticks with him: His dad, a Holocaust survivor, told his son how a Nazi guard gave him a potato even though the soldier would have been punished for helping a Jew.

Lubetzky, the founder of Kind Foods, has long married his business interests with social responsibility.

The latest incarnation is the creation this past week of the Kind Foundation, which will give out $1 million to individuals who are giving back to their communities.

The foundation competition is called, appropriately enough, Kind People, and six people who “embody kindness” will be selected.

Five people nominated by the public will win $100,000, and one person will win $500,000. Nominations will be accepted through March 31 on the foundation and company website:

“I don’t see it as philanthropy so much as a duty,” Lubetzky said.
