Neoconservative writer Bill Kristol slammed Donald Trump again, insisting that the mercurial Republican candidate’s campaign shakeup would do nothing to reverse his slide in the polls.
“I don’t think it matters because the problem is Donald Trump,” Kristol said in an interview on the Morning Joe program, Politico reported.
Trump announced early Wednesday morning that he is hiring Stephen K. Bannon, an executive with the right-wing Breitbart news site, as campaign CEO and promoting chief pollster Kellyanne Conway to the role of campaign manager.
Bannon has a reputation for his scorched-earth style, signaling that Trump may be planning a more hard-hitting campaign approach, even though analysts have blamed his faltering poll numbers on his shoot-from-the-hip style.
During the GOP primaries, Breitbart writer David Horowitz famously attacked Kristol for not backing Trump, branding him a “renegade Jew.”
Kristol has been one of the most outspoken right-wing voices in the #NeverTrump movement, which fought a failing battle to block him from winning the Republican nomination.
The Weekly Standard scribe said conventional political wisdom would lead one to to think a Republican nominee should be winning in an election year where the election of Clinton would mean the third consecutive term for a political party
“And he’s losing by 10,” he added. “That’s all about Trump.”
