David C. Kogen, JTS Administrator
Rabbi David C. Kogen, vice chancellor emeritus of the Jewish Theological Seminary, died October 19. He was 86 years old.
Ordained at JTS in 1946, Kogen joined its administration in 1958 as assistant to the chancellor and assistant professor in practical theology. He became vice chancellor in 1966.
“Rabbi Kogen was a man whose dignity and fairness touched all who knew him. His impact on JTS, our students, faculty and staff was tremendous, and he will forever be remembered as a mentor and friend to generations of the JTS family,” Ismar Schorsch, chancellor of JTS, and Gershon Kekst, chairman of JTS’s board of trustees, said in a statement.
Survivors include his wife, Dena, his sister Naomi and his children. Services were held October 21 at JTS. Donations in Kogen’s memory can be made to American Friends of Magen David Adom.
