Not that they cared, but fans of the most insane, over-the-top Jewish vegetable dish in the galaxy can breathe easy.
The whole roast cauliflower at Toronto’s Fat Pasha, embellished with tahini, skhug, pine nuts, pomegranate and halloumi, got a passing grade today from the Toronto Star.
The breakdown: The dish – a constant sellout and Instagram sensation – carries 679 calories, 45 grams of fat, and 910 milligrams of sodium – half the recommended daily allowance.
“I just have positive things to say about this dish,” a dietitian tells health columnist Megan Ogilvie. “Roasted veggies are always a great choice and I’d love to see more veggie-centric meals like this featured on menus.” Not to mention tahini-centric, cheese-centric, and shkug-centric. “I might pair this with an appetizer, maybe the grilled squid or some salatim, including the chopped eggplant and tahini, the red lentil spread and the garlic labneh with za’atar,” the supposed dietitian continued.
The dish’s price fluctuates with the wholesale cost of cauliflower. While it’s hovered around $25CDN this month, it soared as high as $42 last year.
For his part, Rose took the story in stride. “I was not surprised about the findings,” he told the Forward in an e-mail. “I am scared we will now sell more cauliflower.”
