Brad Pitt Goes Green in New Orleans

When he’s not on the set filming a soon-to-be blockbuster hit, or traveling to Africa to adopt impoverished children, superstar Brad Pitt might be found in New Orleans, where he’s promoting “Make It Right.” The project is building 150 affordable, environmentally friendly homes for low-income families in the Lower Ninth Ward, one of the neighborhoods hit hardest by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Pitt recently met with Jewish teens who were in the Big Easy for a reunion of participants of Etgar 36, a summer trip across America during which kids learn about activism, politics and history. While in New Orleans, the teens visited a destroyed synagogue, celebrated the Sabbath with congregants in their temporary space and pitched in on a cleanup project in the Lower Ninth Ward.

A message from our editor-in-chief Jodi Rudoren

We're building on 127 years of independent journalism to help you develop deeper connections to what it means to be Jewish today.

With so much at stake for the Jewish people right now — war, rising antisemitism, a high-stakes U.S. presidential election — American Jews depend on the Forward's perspective, integrity and courage.
