Museum Explores the Jewish Experience

The Museum of the City of New York presents a series of events in conjunction with the exhibition The Jewish Daily Forward: Embracing an Immigrant Community.

Ruth Westheimer will discuss the Bintel Brief, the Forward’s recently revived advice column, with Forward Web editor Daniel Treiman; Broadway producer Stewart Lane, New Yorker film critic David Denby, actress Tovah Feldshuh and others will explore the ways in which Jews have influenced Broadway and Hollywood; Joseph Berger will talk about his new book, “The World in a City” (please see book review on this page), and filmmaker Kate Feiffer (daughter of artist Jules) will attend a screening and lead a discussion on her documentary “Matzo & Mistletoe,” which examines American secular Judaism.

Museum of the City of New York, 1220 Fifth Ave. (at 103rd St.); Nov. 7-25; for further information, call the museum or visit its Web site. (212-534-1672, ext. 3395, or www.mcny.org)

"Why I became the Forward’s Editor-in-Chief"

You are surely a friend of the Forward if you’re reading this. And so it’s with excitement and awe — of all that the Forward is, was, and will be — that I introduce myself to you as the Forward’s newest editor-in-chief.

And what a time to step into the leadership of this storied Jewish institution! For 129 years, the Forward has shaped and told the American Jewish story. I’m stepping in at an intense time for Jews the world over. We urgently need the Forward’s courageous, unflinching journalism — not only as a source of reliable information, but to provide inspiration, healing and hope.

Support our mission to tell the Jewish story fully and fairly.
