John Ruskay Named Senior Fellow at Jewish People Policy Institute

John Ruskay, the former CEO of the UJA-Federation of New York, was named a senior fellow at the Jerusalem-based Jewish People Policy Institute.

Ruskay was an original board member of the institute, a policy planning think tank on world Jewry issues. He retired in June from the New York federation after more than 20 years there, the last 15 as its leader.

His work at the institute will will focus on making policy recommendations to fit the specific needs and characteristics of North American Jewry, the institute said. Ruskay, executive vice president emeritus of the New York federation, also will serve on the institute’s academic review team.

Ruskay has written extensively on how the American Jewish community can respond to the challenges and opportunities of living in an open society, the role of Jewish philanthropy and the central role of community.

“The challenges facing the Jewish People are prodigious and JPPI has emerged as one of the most important centers where research is undertaken and policy recommendations developed,” he said in a statement. “I look forward to contributing to its work, which is shared with professionals, decision makers and global leaders.”
