Darren Aronofsky Builds Noah’s Ark

Darren Aronofsky has built (well, not exactly all by himself) an ark of biblical proportions in Long Island. It’s for his epic, “Noah,” which is expected in 2014.

Just as Adam Lambert was advocating for marriage equality while on a promotional tour (his new single “Tresspassing” was just released this week) in Australia and New Zealand, word got out that he has insured his voice for an unprecedented $48 million.

Where to start with the update on Scarlett Johansson? Should it be with her break up with New York ad exec Nate Naylor? Or maybe with her MoveON political ad blasting Mitt Romney’s and the Republicans’ positions on women’s health issues? Or perhaps with her W Magazine cover showing her with grey hair, heavy makeup, and a nose ring? Take your pick.

Depeche Mode will be back in Israel, playing a concert in Tel Aviv’s Park HaYarkon in May 2013. The last time they were in the Holy Land was 2009.

Paul Shaffer thinks 32 years together with David Letterman may just be enough. But then again, he and his buddy — both in their 60’s — could get a second wind after their current contract expires in 2014.

“Spring Breakers,” a new film that got a lot of buzz at the Venice and Toronto festivals, may get a late 2012 release so that its co-star, James Franco, will get a shot at a best supporting actor nomination for the 85th Academy Awards. In the film, Franco plays Alien, a drug dealer with cornrows, tattoos and grillwork.

This sure doesn’t look like the house she lived in as Roseanne’s kid. Take a look at former child star and current talk show host Sara Gilbert’s new $3.5 million home in West Hollywood.

Looks like Lindsay Lohan will soon be getting the (in)famous Barbara Walters interview treatment.

Adam Brody dishes about playing a porn star and being a nerdy sex symbol.

Looks like Olympic swimmer Anthony Ervin is going to get to compete in the World Cup Tour after all. He reached his Indiegogo fundraising campaign’s goal with 15 days to spare. He will give anything he raises over his $10,000 goal to a charity that brings clean water to impoverished communities around the world.

Dustin Hoffman, 75, will receive the Hollywood Breakthrough Director Achievement Award at the 16th annual Hollywood Film Awards later this month for his work on the new film “Quartet” — his directorial debut.

Jeremy Piven is apparently best buddies (well, maybe not best, but definitely buddies) with soccer star David Beckham. They met at a Lakers game and spent time together at the London Olympics. So what do they talk about when they hang out? You guessed it: sports.

And some news for all you “Girls” fans out there: Lena Dunham has announced (tweeted, actually) that the show’s season premiere will be on January 13.

I hope you appreciated this article. Before you go, I’d like to ask you to please support the Forward’s award-winning journalism this Passover.

In this age of misinformation, our work is needed like never before. We report on the news that matters most to American Jews, driven by truth, not ideology.

At a time when newsrooms are closing or cutting back, the Forward has removed its paywall. That means for the first time in our 126-year history, Forward journalism is free to everyone, everywhere. With an ongoing war, rising antisemitism, and a flood of disinformation that may affect the upcoming election, we believe that free and open access to Jewish journalism is imperative.

Readers like you make it all possible. Right now, we’re in the middle of our Passover Pledge Drive and we still need 300 people to step up and make a gift to sustain our trustworthy, independent journalism.

Make a gift of any size and become a Forward member today. You’ll support our mission to tell the American Jewish story fully and fairly.
