“The Band’s Visit,” a theatrical adaptation of the 2007 film of the same name, will appear on Broadway this coming fall.
The musical, which premiered Off-Broadway last fall at the Atlantic Theater Company, consists of a book by Itamar Moses and music and lyrics by David Yazbek. Following an Egyptian band as it accidentally stumbles into a secluded Israeli town, the musical has been an awards-circuit darling, winning big at the Lucille Lortel Awards, Outer Critics Circle Awards, New York Drama Critics’ Circle Awards, and Obie Awards.
Director David Cromer will accompany the musical to Broadway, where it will open in previews at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on October 7. Opening night will be November 9.
Casting is yet to be announced. Katrina Lenk, currently appearing on Broadway in Paula Vogel’s “Indecent,” won acclaim for her part in the Off-Broadway production of “The Band’s Visit,” as did Tony Shalhoub.
