Hitler’s Baltic Getaway Sold for Luxury Condos
Hitler’s Nazi holiday resort on the Baltic island of Ruegen is to become a luxury hotel and condo complex.
Block One of the Colossus of Prora, the largest holiday camp ever built by the Nazis, was sold for more than $2.9 million at an auction on March 31 and is to be converted into a luxury hotel with 400 beds and 400 apartments. The camp was built by the Nazi “Strength Through Joy” organization and is situated on three miles of beachfront property.
The resort was finished just as World War II began and was meant to provide entertainment for 20,000 Nazis on holiday at any given time, though none ever stayed there.
After World War II it was used as a top-secret Soviet base for the Red Army and later a tank/artillery base for the People’s Army of East Germany. It has remained unused since the reunification of Germany.
