House Oversight Chair Jason Chaffetz Will Resign Next Month: Reports

Rep. Jason Chaffetz will announce Thursday that he will resign from Congress next month, Politico reported.

The Utah Republican, who converted from Judaism to Mormonism while a student at Brigham Young University, is the chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, the House’s main investigative body.

On Tuesday, Chaffetz sent a letter to the FBI asking for files that could prove that fired FBI Director James Comey documented an attempt by President Trump to dissuade him from investigating former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn.

The congressman had been harshly criticized by constituents for what they saw as his inadequate response to allegations surrounding Trump.

Washingtonian magazine reported last week that Chaffetz has been telling colleagues that he will take a role at Fox News after his resignation on June 30.
