7 Jewish Women To Follow on Twitter

Happy 7th birthday, Twitter!
If the social media network were a student in a Yeshiva day school, right about now would be the moment its mother brought in a tray of donuts for the rest of its social media classmates to share.
And so, in honor of Twitter’s 7th birthday (only 5 years till its Bat Mitzvah!), here is a list of seven Jewish women you should be following on Twitter. Of course, the list could go on and on, but these women will bring a full array of different topics into your Twitter feed and keep you informed on current events, Jewish themes and women’s issues.
@AvitalLeibovich For all things Israel, follow Avital, a proud Israeli who was the former spokeswoman for the Israel’s army to the media. She faces some serious opponents on Twitter but still keeps the Internet informed of how many rockets hit Southern Israel and how many truckloads of goods drive into Gaza each day.
@RachelSklar A former media blogger for Huffington Post before launching Mediaite, Rachel is one of the most influential Jewish women on Twitter. She now heads up Change The Ratio and TheLi.st, advises nonprofits like TeachAids.org on social media, and co-hosts The Salan with Forward Editor-in-Chief Jane Eisner. Her tweets on everything from feminism to women in the techverse are both informative and hilarious.
@katiejmbaker To keep yourself updated about stories on feminism around the country, be sure to follow Jezebel writer Katie Baker. She tweets about local stories of women’s issues and feminist struggles from real people and institutions all around the U.S.
@theChaviva For genuine insights into the daily struggles of a Jewish woman, make sure to follow Chaviva Gordon-Bennet, who offers a peek into the struggles a Jewish woman might go through, from marriage and divorce to spiritual conflicts. Working under the blog “Kvetching Editor,” she shares much of her life in a way that is authentic and makes her audience really feel like they are her friends.
@IrinCarmon Israel-born Irin is a freelance writer and journalist for Salon, but she devotes much of her Twitter to talking about issues like media bias, sexual violence and rape. Irin follows the current events of women’s issues around the Internet and offers thoughtful commentary as well as links of news to read.
@debbieschlussel A conservative writer and film critic, Debbie tweets about politics and current events related to Jewish topics. She also happens to be savvy in taking down anti-Semitic Tweeters, so be sure to follow her for entertaining conversations about why hating Jews is not beneficial for anyone’s digital persona.
Ruth_Messinger A female crusader to bring aid to those in need in all four corners of the earth, Ruth runs the Jewish service organization American Jewish World Service, and tweets about poverty, genocide, financial struggles, the Jewish responsibility of lending a hand in global peace.
