The wife of Brooklyn businessman Michael Cohen went missing recently, and Cohen was dismayed to find out the reason. It’s seems that when Mrs. Cohen was a girl in Russia, she fell in love with a mysterious Mr. Lapin, a man of whom the Cohen girl’s parents did not approve. A few years later, she married Michael Cohen and moved to America, where she gave birth to four children. Things were fine between the Cohens until last Thursday, when Michael came home from work to find four hungry children sitting in the dark. His wife was nowhere to be found, nor were the family’s lifesavings and jewelry. After an arrest warrant was issued, it was discovered that the mysterious Mr. Lapin had shown up in New York and Mrs. Cohen had run off with him.

When Gussie Silverstein met Louis Klows on Delancey Street, he seemed like a nice young man. She took him up on his offer of a ride in his automobile, and the two went off on a joy ride to Jamaica, Long Island. Silverstein told the police it was there that things went bad: Klows drove her to a secluded area and allegedly raped her. When Klows’s case came to trial, Silverstein was waiting to testify. As the police brought in Klows, Silverstein lunged from the gallery and began stabbing him with a knife she had brought into the courtroom. With the courtroom in chaos, police subdued Silverstein and placed her under arrest. Heaving and crying hysterically, she told the court that she attacked Klows because of what he had done to her. Klows is currently in Jamaica Hospital in critical condition.
In a letter to the British high commissioner in Palestine, the president of the Arab Executive Committee, Musa Kazim Pasha, complained that the Jews spread communism and that the British favor the Jews. “All the laws that are passed cause the enslavement of the Arabs and serve to support the Zionists,” Pasha wrote in his letter. Together with the mufti of Jerusalem, Pasha called for all Arabs to take part in angry demonstrations November 2, the anniversary of the Balfour Declaration.

The leader of the Saudi delegation at the United Nations, Ahmad Shukeiri, gave a long speech before the General Assembly, in which he demanded that all Israeli Jews return to their countries of origins. Shukeiri added that Zionists are all traitors to their home countries, and he demanded that all Arab refugees be permitted to return to their homes, that Zionism be banned and that all monies belonging to Zionist organizations be redistributed to other Jewish organizations. Shukeiri’s point that Zionists are traitors and that all Jews must return to their home countries is somewhat ironic, since, as a Palestinian, he has served as the mayor of Acre, was later a Syrian delegate to the U.N. and is currently a Saudi delegate to the U.N.
