Rhythmic Rules
The Israeli ensemble Mayumana (from the Hebrew, meaning “skill” or “dexterity”) makes its United States premiere with “BE,” a dazzling spectacle that blends rhythm, dance, theater and performance art. The group, which has received international acclaim and has performed in more than 30 countries around the globe, was conceived in Tel Aviv in 1996 by Eylon Nuphar and Boaz Berman. “BE” is a new production created specifically for the run in New York.
“It’s not easy to classify this show,” said Nuphar in a press release. “It’s music, it’s theater, it’s percussion, it’s dance, it’s wit. It’s us being ourselves, and basically, anything goes. Creativity and energy are our main themes.”
Union Square Theatre, 100 E. 17th St.; 7 p.m.; $20-$60. (212-505-0700, 212-307-4100 or www.ticketmaster.com)
