The private collection of Joan Rivers raked in almost $2.5 million in live and online auctions this week at Christie’s, with 96% of the lot sold and several extravagant purchases made.
The silver Tiffany & Co. dog bowl engraved with Rivers’ famous dog’s name “Spike,” a Yorkshire terrier that appeared with her on The Tonight Show, sold for $13,750 against its estimate of $500-800. Similarly, but not quite as shocking, a jeweled gold-mounted nephrite picture frame from 1898 Moscow went for $245,000 against an estimate of $40,000 – $60,000.
Other highlights included a pair of Louis XVI style canapés for $37,500 and faux ivory toilette set from 20th century London for $4,000.
