Keshet, which means “rainbow” in Hebrew, seeks “full equality and inclusion” for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Jews within Jewish communities and in all aspects of Jewish life. Founded in 1996, Keshet offers resources and trainings for Jewish leaders to create communities that are welcoming to LGBT Jews. Keshet also offers programming and support for LGBT Jews of all ages, including mentoring and shabbatons. The group also organizes Jewish support for LGBT rights in American society. Keshet is headquartered in Boston and oversees offices in Colorado and the Bay Area, and has worked with Jewish organizations across America.

Idit Klein has served as the executive director of Keshet since 2001 and has greatly expanded its reach. She previously worked for a variety of social justice organizations in Israel, including SHATIL and the Israel/Palestine Center for Research & Information, and helped establish the Jerusalem Open House. Klein is a former fellow and current board member of JOIN for Justice, the Jewish community organizing group. Klein received a bachelor’s from Yale University and a master’s in education from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
