ALPERN EYES ISRAEL FROM ALL ANGLES
“Israel Unwrapped” features roughly a dozen panoramic photographs of historic, religious and scenic sites in Israel by the self-taught, Chicago-born Andy Alpern. The photographs — including “Copper Kotel: The Western Wall at Night,” “The Shuk Vol. 1: Machane Yehudah,” “Dead Sea: Ashanti Camp Site,” “Arizal’s View” in Safed and “The Banias Waterfall” — were taken between 1997 and 2001, when Alpern lived in Israel, working as a tour guide and photographer. After creating a Web site presenting virtual tours of sites in Israel, Alpern began printing the 360-degree panoramas from his site, which range in length from 3.5 feet to 6.5 feet. Ten percent of the net proceeds from his photography benefit environmental and social-justice organizations in Israel. The exhibit also includes 10 photographs from last year’s “Environmental Bike Ride,” organized by Hazon, the Jewish environmental organization that is also sponsoring the exhibit.

I hope you appreciated this article. Before you go, I’d like to ask you to please support the Forward.
Now more than ever, American Jews need independent news they can trust, with reporting driven by truth, not ideology. We serve you, not any ideological agenda.
At a time when other newsrooms are closing or cutting back, the Forward has removed its paywall and invested additional resources to report on the ground from Israel and around the U.S. on the impact of the war, rising antisemitism and polarized discourse.
This is a great time to support independent Jewish journalism you rely on. Make a gift today!
