Idina Menzel, Carole King and Fran Drescher were just a few of the Hollywood heavy hitters who came together to record “What the World Needs Now is Love” in wake of the mass shooting in Orlando.
“Broadway for Orlando”: The Exclusive Music Video from Playbill on Vimeo.
“Love must prevail.” a few of the stars said to camera, before the video cut away to a small sound studio crammed with more than 60 of Broadway’s finest. The recording of the Burt Bacharach classic can be purchased on iTunes, with 100% of the proceeds going to the LGBT Center of Central Florida.
The star-studded collaboration came shortly after a sobering Tony Awards, in which stars donned silver bows as tokens of remembrance and Lin-Miranda Manuel got on stage to declare, “love is love is love.”
