Learn Yiddish with the Forverts

This is truly an exciting time for the Yiddish language.

Thousands of people have begun studying it, as evidenced by the boom of Yiddish classes online and by the 200,000 people who use the Yiddish version of the language app Duolingo.

To make it easy for you to grow your Yiddish vocabulary, Forverts editor Rukhl Schaechter created the Yiddish Word of the Day.

This series aims to give non-Yiddish speakers an introduction to familiar Yiddish words and phrases and how they might be used in everyday situations by breaking down phrases and words that you could use in everyday language and on special occasions.
