POEM: ‘this & this’
all this was sand
before the grammarian:
this & this
& this
was a relief
of stones
it was a relief
Watch it! says
a grammarian
he is old
now his boots
are caked in sand
he has been
relieved
he is relieved!
of this
& this
but not yet that—
he is relieved but
not as a stone
is relieved
in sand
not yet
not even
a pebble under a wave
is a grammar
Watch it! says a grammarian
but we have stopped
watching
listening
for the sounds
of rattling.
