Bagels & Ballots: Erev Elections
Time to Face the Music: After months of speculation about control of congress, the midterm elections are upon us. Tomorrow, the country will take to the polls and determine its legislative future. But on the eve of the action itself, Gallup offered a warning to Democrats on Sunday night, with a poll indicating that Republicans had a 15-point generic ballot lead among likely voters, with 55%. The pollsters themselves say the gap is “unprecedented and could result in the largest Republican margin in House voting in several generations.” (Gallup)
Counting the Stars Some More: The Democrats are prepared to swallow a massively bitter pill. Politico writes: “There is nearly uniform consensus among Democratic campaign professionals that the House is gone … While few will say so on the record for fear of alienating party officials or depressing turnout, every one of nearly a dozen Democratic House consultants and political strategists surveyed expect a GOP majority to be elected Tuesday.’ (Politico)
Questioning a Congresswoman’s Jewishness: Gabrielle Giffords is a Democrat running for her third term representing Arizona’s 8th congressional district. After a fairly under-the-radar campaign, a Jewish Republican is raising questions about her faith: Bruce Ash posted a letter on a conservative website, referring to Giffords as the congresswoman “who claims to be a Jewess.” (MitzVote)
Attacks Over Israel Not Making a Dent: A J Street poll of Illinois’ 9th congressional district shows that a Republican candidate’s jabs at his opponent’s stance on Israel hasn’t helped his cause. (MitzVote)
From Our Inboxes: Remember Kendrick Meek, the losing Democrat in the three-way split Florida’s senate race, who was asked to drop his bid both by competitor Charlie Crist and Bill Clinton? Guess who he’s rallying with tonight? None other than 42 himself, according to the Meek campaign. Well, that’s awkward.
