5 Great Spots To Celebrate National Donut Day!

It’s time to celebrate all things hole-y. Today is the first Friday of June, which means it’s National Donut Day. Created in 1938 in Chicago by the Salvation Army, the celebration pays tribute to the men and women who served donuts to soldiers during World War I.

We’ve compiled a list of bakeries around the country with rockin’ donuts, as well as some recipes for DIY sufganiyot, the traditional Hannukah filled donut.

The shops

Mighty-O Donuts, Seattle
Organic, vegan, delicious.

Dynamo Donut, San Francisco
You had me at Hazelnut Chocolate Lavender.

Fractured Prune, Washington, DC
Some like ‘em hot.

The Donut Whole, Wichita, Kansas
With a drive-in window open 24 hours a day, this is a donut shop, art gallery and live music venue all in one. Oh, and it’s also rooster themed.

Gordough’s, Austin, Texas
Fat donuts. Because everything’s bigger in Texas.
