Covering the Madoff Scandal

December 11 marks the one-year anniversary of Bernard Madoff’s arrest on fraud charges.
In the days following his arrest, the Forward provided robust reporting on the multibillion-dollar Ponzi scheme’s impact on the Jewish community and its organizations. Early coverage probed Madoff’s communal connections, tallied organizational losses and took readers inside Madoff’s Upper East Side penthouse, which has since been seized by U.S. Marshals.
During the past year, the Forward has sought to cover the scandal from all sides — in news, features and opinion pieces, in print and online. The Madoff affair was even the subject of a comic strip —and a subsequent news illustration — by the Forward’s Eli Valley, and an article in our Purim spoof, Backward.
What follows is a list of the Forward’s articles and blog posts on the Madoff scandal, beginning with our most recent coverage, as well as a related photo gallery.

The Forward is free to read, but it isn’t free to produce

I hope you appreciated this article. Before you go, I’d like to ask you to please support the Forward.
Now more than ever, American Jews need independent news they can trust, with reporting driven by truth, not ideology. We serve you, not any ideological agenda.
At a time when other newsrooms are closing or cutting back, the Forward has removed its paywall and invested additional resources to report on the ground from Israel and around the U.S. on the impact of the war, rising antisemitism and polarized discourse.
This is a great time to support independent Jewish journalism you rely on. Make a Passover gift today!
